The news reeks of world war 3

This weeks been like any other more conflict, bloodshed and death, yet with this israeli attack on Lebenon and the north Korean missile crisis you have to ask whether this has the all the signs which history has shown before with WW1 and WW2. A large event that sparks it (in our case 9/11, before this, say prior to WW1 Gavrilo Princip, and then the great depression which sparked the decline that brought fascism to Germany) and what follows (war, war, war and more war- just all over the place. How long will it be before nations begin allyng themselves in the east with China, Iran and the crazy ideological bunch. Although the west is know better. Everything is equal in these 'resource' wars and there seems to be no right or good about anything seen gracing the TV news.
Any thoughts?

Don't worry about who may be right or wrong. The victor writes the history books.

Seriously, things are escalating. Everyone is pushing. In particular I worry over the Israel VS Neighbors situation. This could be the real beginning of the end of freedom in the US, regardless of Israel's fate.

Could you elaborate on this?
One republican, I read somewhere called the current situation over there "Soft fascism". Are you talking of proper dictorship with ideology etc?
I'm quite surprised you said that anyway, but then again this isn't a small thing. My bet is that Syria will be next on the hit list, then they'll try for Iran and that could bring the real problems, with respect to Iran's relationship to far-eastern countries like China. These are mysterious times there is no doubt. What comes next, who knows. Man, I wish I would have born just few decades earlier and heart attack and died at 60, missing all the crap that'll come within the next few years. But then again, all hope isn't lost and we should prey for mediation. One things for sure, there aint no way I'm fighting for a west with no worthy cause worth dying for.

Have you also noticed how the news is very slanted in favour of Israel too btw?Balanced, my arse. emoticon

Elaborate? Sure. We're going to get drawn in, or should I say we're going to jump in. Honestly, I guess we're already there, right? Every country in the Middle East will probably declare all-out war on Israel and it's big brother, the United States. More troubling is the fact that most of the world already seems to have chosen sides for World War III.

I'm waiting to see how Israel's situation will further affect our policy. Congressional elections are coming up very soon. It's high time for politicians to include Israel in rhetoric. Israel can be used as an example of how the US is not safe, and could only guarantee it's safety through armed conflict. Currently, the media tells us that Israel's enemies are treating Israel as a schoolyard bully might. "Israel gives into a few demands. Hezbollah and Hamas take that as a sign of weakness."

One thing is for sure this has taken a long time in coming if indeed this is the latest chapter in the coming world war.
Could you fight, knowing you can't really trust your government? It's these questions which nag away at me, knowing that it everything isn't as simple as people in caves plotting western demise, but rather an unethical war for the middle-eartern region which could trigger the third total war.

If called into military service, I suppose I could fight.....conditionally. I certainly would not wish to spend weeks and weeks protecting an oil well for some unseen corporate entity.

But, oh my, if an army were to march into South Carolina..... I could fight that until death.

Yes. I can just see the Chinese Army marching in right now, just as everyone has surrendered you fight to the death for your small patch of land. Suddenly, as you guard your mansion-sized pool in the back yard, from the bushes comes a small Chinese man, running and shouting 'Banzai' or something. He stabs you with his bayonet and you die. The last thing you see as you die is the name 'Hoq Man Chu' on his jacket. After you die, Hoq and his buddies cut you up, share drinks with some Iranians and dine on a piece of Michael Morris leg while sat by the pool you guarded till you died. emoticon

Ludicrous. I don't have a pool.

But I'm also not alone. And don't forget that my state has been a battleground in two wars. Yes, we fought the Bri..well, we fought the Revolutionary War. Of course, we also fought the United States in the Civil War(the terrorists seem to lack the stones for this sort of thing).

Isn't it unfortunate that we don't experience wars on the local level? Would it not change our perspective if soldiers' gunshots could be heard down the street?

About the Isreal VS Neighbors news coverage: Though there are the usual slanted journalists(both sides), what I noticed most is a sort of detached recounting of events, as if the reporters are more than a little befuddled. Perhaps they're simply watching in horror....

Re: The news reeks of world war 3

Hmmmm...for the past two days I've been reading a non-fiction book called 'The Fate of Homo Sapiens' by H.G. Wells written prior to WW2 and published just before it began in 1939.
Many chapters of the book pick up on what was happening at the time and it's amazing how how he cuts through a subject. He discusses democracy, ideologies, organized religion, science etc.
One chapter really stood out for me anyway and relates somewhat to the current situation in the middle-east. If this chapter was printed today by some other author there would be uproar and that person would be called an anti-semite. The problem is, this chapter actually had some valid points about the jewish idea of them being the 'Chosen People' and zionism.
To summarise, the jewish with this idea of themselves being the chosen people will do anything to gain a futting in the world to be the chosen people. And then we come back to today, seeing what's happening, this Annihilation of those so-called 'terrorists' in Lebanon who appear at most times disguised as women and young children. It makes you think. Who's side are you on? Neither? Is this a case of the lesser of two evils?
It's not that they want to control us, he explains, but they (Zionists) are very much arrogant force which will bring on further destruction and death through irrational beliefs systems, such as the idea that all jews are the 'chosen people'.

He also had a rant at a conspiracy theorist from the 1930's explaining that her beliefs of a jewish plot to rule the world was insane. She sounded like an early version of Icke, mentioning Freemason and the illuminati and how they enslave us.

Two things first: I came here this evening because Alex Jones and a panel of 9/11 conspiracists are on C-SPAN. I haven't been watching very closely, but I've seen no convincing evidence. It's largely a bunch of rhetoric. Currently a gentleman is suggesting that there will be a US war against Iran, because people around the nation's capitol are preparing for such. Second thing: I read a bit of Icke's book. My mind is boggled.

On the matter of Israel VS The Middle East: Mostly, I'm undecided. I don't think the kidnapped Israelis will come back. I don't think the war will stop. Either Israel or it's neighbors must disappear. Toss a coin, if you will.

About the "Chosen People": That's believable. Christian's have used such a notion to bolster their own indefensible actions throughout history. Consider also the Muslim notion of the infidel. Hate other religions.
