I fired my first gun/rifle yesterday

...well, I say rifle, but it was an expensive BB version of a french army rifle. It scared the !@#$ out me, but hell it fun. emoticon
Guns are practically illegal here, and I'll say that's a good thing. Although, we do have a huge knife crime [sign in to see URL] I used to and still do occassionaly carry one, albeit a very small street legal one.

I swear, I neally creamed my pants when this rifle went off.emoticon

you own a gun or fired one before?

Re: I fired my first gun/rifle yesterday

So that's what the French are using now. Save time, surrender now.

The only gun I have is an old shotgun that I've kept for my uncle. I fire it perhaps once every two years, and I use it's noise to scare away stray dogs(they are very unfriendly, and they belong to a distant neighbor).

Actually, my parents gave me a cheap BB rifle on my twelfth birthday. I didn't use it very often and I managed to get shot with it twice. That hurts very much.

I've fired the shotgun(.410),
a 12-gauge shotgun(it hurt my wrist and shoulder quite a bit, and I doubt it was legal),
a 22 caliber rifle(really fun for target shooting, but why go through the trouble?),
a 44 caliber Ruger pistol(fun too, no kick),
a 22 Dehringer(sp? this is a tiny two barrel thing of the type that has appeared in many cowboy films),
a cheap 22 caliber starter pistol(using plastic "blank" cartridges, I played a terrible joke on someone)
and several cheap 22 caliber REAL pistols(their aim was so innaccurate that they were VERY dangerous).

I've got to say that most of those experiences happened only because of a sense of wonder regarding those things. Now, the wonder is gone and, well, no good can come from those things. Other than using the shotgun as the occasional noise-maker, I don't like them and don't plan on owning a gun. I've seen them used unsafely. And, the noise of a gunshot will totally wrecking a person's hearing ability. Gun experts recommend using earplugs AND muffling headsets, and I own neither of these things.

I don't carry a knife unless I think I'll it need for work, otherwise I worry that some bad situation might unfold in which I would later regret carrying the knife. However, I know lots of people that carry a knife everyday for utility purposes.

I acknowledge that owning a gun is slightly different depending on where you might live. City or rural. There's hardly a safe place to use a gun in the city, except at shooting ranges. Those places could easily offer onsite rentals for bloodthirsty action-junkies to get off a few rounds. I think we should declare GUN-FREE ZONES and posts signs around them, and if someone has a gun in that area, off to jail with them. Take Bowling For Columbine as an example: that neighborhood should have had NO guns, and yet there were so many in the homes of those kids. Not good, and not that a massacre can't happen in a small town, either, but did that film not demonstrate that attitudes about guns vary? Detroit is thought of as a warzone, yet Windsor, only perhaps a mile away, has virtually no crime.

Interesting. Why doesn't your uncle look after it? Is this the one you said once, "is a family heirloom (sp?)" which you used to make a small film with?
If you have this small film stil, please post it. youtube is your friend.

Also, I went out again tonight, to the same place my army friend and I fired the french bb assault rifle the other day - the woods - although we didn't bring it with us this time. Anyways, we were there, pitch black and going do a camp type fire and we soon realised we were not alone. we saw flashing torchlights and peoples shadows ahead of us. Then my friend deciced, being a soldier it would be good to do some espionage training (hide in some bushesemoticon). I told him this was childish, but him being 6'4 and a part-time soldier meant my rant went without reply as we sat in some wet bush hiding from the 'bad guys'. So, as the first bunch of teenagers pass us as we're hiding, then more come in to view. However, the second bunch, two teenagers spotted us and then suddenly - fireworks go off! we then move on running, epionage mode. we then hide again, further into the wood being tracked down by these maniacs with fireworks. Somehow, although successfully keeping quiet, they find us. One of them says "you can run, but you can't hide", then a firework goes off. I nearly shat myself, ran off screaming like a girl. It turned out later, that they thought we were someone else and apologised. fun time. yet, i'm scarred for life. emoticon

Oh, the film is gone. It's okay though, because I'll do it again. Haha.

Those army guys, I have trouble with them sometimes. My cousin WAS military, which accounts for a lot of my gun experience. I've nearly been shot several times, and it's mostly his fault.
