suggestions on movies you should see...

here yah go, here's a list of movies, not specifically horror that I urge you to see:

Expiration - Cool low-buget canadian film that's been compared to The Wizard of Oz, with the exception that the film tackles issues such as suicide, prostition and drug abuse/dealing etc.

The Football Factory - A new Brit-flick, which in my opinion is the best since Trainspotting. It's story focuses around some football hooligans of the Chelsea 'firm.' Worth watching British or not.

And last of all...
Two Days - Watched this film a couple of hours ago, it's still on my mind. It's about a failed actor, who instead of writing a suicide note for his suicide, decides instead to make a documentary, with crew in an everything. Apparently based on a true story. It okay, very different, strange might be a word for describing this film.

I've never heard of one of them. I think I'm going to look if they are available here.

Know what movie you must see: 1984. It has not a very high budget but it's cool and very dark. That made it good.

Another cool movie is the Pit and the Pendulum. It's from Stuart Gordon we all know of Re-Animator. TPatP is sometimes hard to watch because of some expliciet torture scenes. That's why it's unrated in the US.

Do you mean the version of 1984 starring John Hurt and Richard Burton? That was a good film, and it stayed very close to Orwell's book. I think this movie was largely ignored in America. Anyway, three cheers for BB and IngSoc.

Lost In Translation-This is a nebulous, paradoxical and occasionally funny film. The story-telling is very reminiscent of Apocalypse Now. It is good stuff.

I recommend that you avoid American films containing any one of the following: Samurai, sea captains, the Wayans brothers, Greek warriors, magic children, President Bush, a black guy named Cuba, and/or the word "Revolutions".

Yes, I meant that movie. It's been made in 1984.

Greek warriors, I've seen Troy. Not very good in my opinion.

Has anyone heard of Ichi the Killer? I've heard this is a VERY nasty movie.

You guys should check out a movie called Fahrenheit 451 based on the book by Ray Bradbury. I saw it the other week and loved it.

Another worth mentioning is Day of the Triffids another film based on a book.

They are both films made in the 60's.

Take a look on imdb to find out more.

With both of these films you can see that ideas used within the films have influenced the world of cinema.

You make an excellent point, Alex. I saw the last half of Fahrenheit 451 on television and enjoyed it very much. I never realized that it was so old, but I also saw Clockwork Orange twice before I realized that is was funny. On that note, everyone should be familiar with all of Stanley Kubrick's films.

Fahrenheit 451... and what about Fahrenheit 9/11 emoticon I would like to see that movie. Bowling for Columbine was good but I can understand that some of us don't think so.

You have a good choice in films, indeed Stanley kubrick was a master in his field. I found Clockwork Orange quite shocking at first, so shocking I had to sit again, in someways I could relate to the characters even though they seemed like mindless thugs.
Young Alex is such an interesting person from the start, he acts as if he's a normal kid when he's around his parents, then he resides in his room with Beethoven, a python and wods of cash - that is his world, his room, his parents don't go in and are unable to see what Alex is really like. No, I'm not a thug, I don't beat up old drunk folks on the weekend but do hide my 'true' self from my parents a lot of the time. I see myself as an independent, who's thoughts are my own, and in all honesty my parents see me totally differently.

I like Kubrick films not just for Kurbrick's vision but for the artistry that is involved, like a painting Kubrick tended to take his time to get everything right.
