Re: New Stuff

Is Freddy VS Jason a masterpiece? I heard it was crap. It just doesn't make sense, two characters from a different world in one world. Maybe it's good. I'l check the reviews later.

I was joking about Freddy VS Jason. I heard it was crap, as well. I also heard that House of the Dead was very, very bad. A friend went to the theater to see this, and hated it so much, he walked out before the movie was finished.

Freddy's world and Jason's world have supposedly been the same world since the early 1990's, because the company that made Nightmare On Elm Street movies purchased the rights to make new Friday the 13th movies. The company's first move toward making Freddy VS Jason occured in 1993 when Jason Goes To Hell was made.

What if Leatherface fought Michael Myers? The butcher's knife versus the chainsaw...

Also: why not post you Demons 2 review here on the messageboard? I would like to read this.

Okay, here it goes:

Demons 2
(1986)

The plot:
There is a high-rise building where we follow different stories: a party, a boy home alone, a couple of who the woman is pregnant, a club of bodybuilders. When they find one, the demon attacks the youngsters and after this he comes through the television, weird or what? After this the demon infects a girl, she bites and scratches other people who become also demons. Blood is dripping through the floors and so many and many people are being turned into demons. A lot of people are trying to hide in the parking station and fight the demons…

My thoughts:
This is an Italian movie so I guess you’ll understand what we are dealing with: a film with a weak plot, stupid actors and cheap special effects. I must say it wasn’t that bad. You can’t compare this movie with those trash films like Burial Ground and Zombie 2. I must say if you don’t know where the movie comes from I think you’ll might think it could be an American movie. The main difference in this movie is that the most of those story lines has NOT an happy end. The acting was weak but not as horrible as in Burial Ground. The makeup was good, really good. Those demons were very nasty. Also the special effects were good. Okay, some scenes were laughable, really. The best part was when some bodybuilders took iron sticks and flowerpots to keep the demons away. After this they run to a parking lot where one of them takes a shotgun. Since when does bodybuilders have shotguns in the back of their cars? Who cares? It was funny to see. Also when that pregnant woman, I’ve mentioned before, gets attacked by a little boy demon. And when the body of that boy bursts open and a gremlin look like monsters comes out you’ll laugh yourself to death. It was not very gory, well, not as gory as I expected to be. If you can watch the nasty movies like Zombie 2 for example you can watch this film easily. The demons were very nasty to see but this is what makes them cool. The film looked like a zombie movie but now there are demons who spread the infection on and not zombies. A nice idea, also the fact that those demons were a lot nastier and more scarier than zombies. Don’t expect demons as you can see them in Evil Dead. Just expect a zombie movie.

Good review, much better than mine! I like that you say it seems like an American movie. I agree.

Also, Dawn remake is now scheduled for March 2004 U.S. theatrical release.....

Re: New Stuff

In my review, I don't mention much of the good action in Demons 2.

Also, I cannot find Demons 1 in stores either. A video rental store had this movie on VHS several years ago. So, I rented and recorded Demons 1 and 2. When you mentioned Demons 2 several weeks ago, I went back to this video store and found that they now have Demons 1 and 2 on DVD. I enjoyed the commentary track very much. It featured Lamberto Bava and Sergio Stivaletti. They had much to say about the movie's special effects.

Those special effects were good, not perfect but they were okay. In Burial Ground for example they are [sign in to see URL]. On my dvd of Demons 2 there were 4 short films about Argento's work.

In America, Argento is treated worse than Romero. It is impossible to find Argento's movies here. I have managed to find Bird With The Crystal Plummage, Suspiria, Phenomena(originally released in the U.S. as Creepers), Trauma, and Phantom of the Opera. Many of these movies are badly re-edited for American distribution.

Why is Argento treated so bad? Are all his films X rated? Here you can buy his so-called gaillos on dvd for €6 each. I can buy Trauma, Sleepless and the Cat 'o Nine Tales for this price. Also Suspiria is avialable for €10. I haven't found the time to buy them. I'vem just ordered the dvd of The Howling: 6 - The Freaks. It's for €5 so that's very cheap. I'm wondering how those Howling movies are.
I have a question about those regions of dvds. In the US there is region 1 and here in Europe there is region 2. Will this mean that if I buy the SE dvd of Day of the Dead for example in the US I can't play it on my dvd player here in Europe? But what about my computer? Can dvd players on a computer play dvds of all regions or are they also just for one region?
